What is the problem?
Physical inactivity is a major health issue. It contributes to almost every chronic disease including heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, depression and some cancers. A 2005 survey conducted for Saskatchewan in motion found that 46% of Saskatchewan Adults, 73% of Saskatchewan youth and 71% of children aged 5-12 are considered insufficiently active for optimal health benefits according to federal guidelines.
Who is Regina in motion?
Regina in motion has been in place since 2003. It is part of a larger Saskatchewan in motion initiative. The purpose of Regina in motion is to create awareness of the benefits of physical activity and create behavioral changes that increase the physical activity levels of Regina and area residents. Regina in motion consists of a steering committee made of up representatives from the Public and Separate School boards, the City of Regina, the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region, the Regina Senior Citizen's Centre Inc., University of Regina, Regina Partners for Healthy Living and ReginaSport Inc. As well a number of sub-committees work on action plans with direction from the Steering Committee.

Regina in motion's goal is to increase the level of physical activity of Regina and area residents by 5% by 2010.
